Importers of CBAM goods will be required to purchase certificates starting from February 2027 to cover their 2026 imports.
For 2026, the price of CBAM certificates will be determined based on the quarterly average of allowances auctioned in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), unlike the weekly price calculation that will apply from 2027 onwards. This method will ensure a fair, transparent, and consistent price formation aligned with the EU carbon market. Quarterly prices will be calculated in the first calendar week of the following quarter and published on both the European Commission’s CBAM webpage and the CBAM Registry on the first working day following the calculation week.
The publication dates for CBAM certificates in 2026 are as follows:
- First quarter: April 7, 2026
- Second quarter: July 6, 2026
- Third quarter: October 5, 2026
- Fourth quarter: January 4, 2027
Simultaneously, the call for tender for the Common Central Platform, which will manage the sale and repurchase of CBAM certificates, is ongoing. Interested economic operators may submit their bids until March 20, 2026, at 12:00:59 (UTC+01:00).
