Tata Steel Nederland aims to contribute to the production of lighter and more fuel efficient vehicles with HyperFlange®, a new generation steel product developed for the automotive industry. This new type of steel stands out with its structure especially suitable for chassis and suspension systems.
HyperFlange®, which has high edge ductility, significantly reduces the problem of edge cracking, which is frequently encountered in press shops. The new product allows thinner designs to be applied with confidence, while at the same time increasing productivity by minimizing material loss in the production process.
Dr. Arjan Rijkenberg, Principal Scientist at Tata Steel Nederland, stated: "Thanks to the special test methods we have developed, we can measure the fracture toughness of steel more precisely. In the light of this information, we have created HyperFlange, which is both strong and has high edge ductility."
Moe Ziaran, Marketing Manager Automotive Chassis & Components, stated: "Thanks to HyperFlange, manufacturers will be able to produce with fewer interruptions, less material loss and higher efficiency. This means lighter and higher performing vehicles,".
