Taiwan scrap imports decreased by 16%

Taiwan’s scrap imports in July totaled approximately 195,000 tons, marking a 16% decline from the previous month, according to Taiwan Customs data.

The United States remained the largest supplier, with shipments to Taiwan reaching around 90,000 tons, a slight 3% drop compared to June. Japan followed as the second-largest source, exporting roughly 34,000 tons, a significant m-o-m decrease of 45.9%. The Dominican Republic ranked third, sending around 16,000 tons of scrap to Taiwan, while Canada contributed 10,700 tons during the same period.

Taiwan’s scrap imports reached about 1.46 million tons in the first half of this year; a 9.34% decrease compared to the same period last year. In June, Taiwan’s scrap imports reached about 232,000 tons.

The changes in Taiwan’s scrap imports reflect the impact of various economic and geopolitical factors on the market. In addition, Japan’s 45.9% decrease in exports has led to Taiwan’s reduced reliance on a major supply point.
