Steel and aluminum crisis! EU to respond to Trump

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the 25% additional tariff imposed by the U.S. on steel and aluminum imports is an unfair practice, emphasizing that the EU will respond to this situation. Von der Leyen indicated that the measures to be taken will be "strong and proportional."

Steel and aluminum crisis! EU to respond to Trump

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated, "Tariffs are bad for businesses and even worse for consumers," adding that the "unfair" 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum, as well as reciprocal tariffs on other products, "will not go unanswered."

U.S. President Donald Trump has expanded tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, canceling customs agreements with the European Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and other countries. Trump described this decision as "a significant step towards making America strong again."

"It increases costs and boosts inflation"

Von der Leyen commented on the U.S.'s new tariff decision but avoided signaling any direct retaliation.

Maroš Šefčovič stated, the EU's top official for trade matters, speaking at the European Parliament, said these tariffs would have negative consequences for both the U.S. and the EU. "By imposing these tariffs, the U.S. is not only placing an additional tax burden on its own citizens but also increasing costs for businesses and driving up inflation."

Economists note that the Trump administration's decision will have serious implications for global trade, and the EU is likely to keep retaliatory options on the table.
