Stable trend continues in the Turkish rebar market

Rebar prices continue to remain stable in the Turkish market.

Stable trend continues in the Turkish rebar market

Throughout the week, the Turkish rebar market remained under pressure due to sluggish demand both domestically and abroad. Sales activity was limited as the 28–29 October Republic Day holiday slowed down trading further, keeping the market quiet overall.

As of Thursday, official export offers from mills stood at $550–555/ton FOB Türkiye for rebar and $555–565/ton FOB for wire rod, unchanged from the previous week. However, some deals were reportedly concluded at $545/ton or below. Despite stable scrap prices and high billet costs, producers were forced to sell at lower levels, resulting in loss-making sales across the market.

In the domestic market, rebar prices remained flat within a $540–560/ton ex-works range, with regional differences persisting. In the İzmir region, prices hovered around $540/ton, while in the Marmara region, mill prices were steady at $555–560/ton. İçdaş’s official price also remained stable at $555/ton.

On the export side, Turkish rebar prices dropped to around $540/ton FOB Türkiye. Despite relatively firm offers, producers showed growing flexibility, accepting lower counteroffers in an effort to sustain sales volumes. Sources noted that mills, facing insufficient order volumes, are under sales pressure, which continues to increase the downward price risk in the market.

Market participants cited direct mill-to-market sales and heightened competition with traders as the main factors tightening prices. With demand still limited, end buyers’ preference for purchasing directly from mills has squeezed trader margins, while the anticipated market recovery has yet to materialize.

Overall, weak demand, cash flow challenges, and growing competition continue to exert downward pressure on prices in both domestic and export markets. Market participants do not expect any significant short-term recovery in rebar demand or pricing.
