Metal Solutions, one of the UK's leading suppliers of traditional metal roofing and cladding, is committed to delivering low carbon solutions using fossil fuel-free technologies developed by SSAB. The company's goal is to move to a completely fossil fuel-free production process, starting with recycled low-emission steel.
Green transformation with GreenCoat®
Within the scope of the partnership, SSAB's rapeseed oil-based GreenCoat® color coated steel, which is included in Metal Solutions' product portfolio, will continue to be one of the basic materials of environmentally friendly metal roofing and facade cladding. This innovative product makes a difference in the field of sustainable construction materials while significantly reducing the carbon footprint.
John Flood, Director of Metal Solutions, stated: "Collaboration, sustainability and innovation are our core values. Through this partnership, we are offering our customers a greener and more responsible future."
“We are pleased to take this new step with Metal Solutions,” stated Dave Williams, Managing Director of SSAB Swedish Steel Ltd. With GreenCoat®, we are not only reducing our own emissions, but also contributing to the reduction of indirect emissions by our customers."

Aiming for leadership in fossil fuel-free steel
While traditional steel production remains a significant source of global CO₂ emissions, SSAB continues to be one of the pioneers of transformation in this area. In 2021, the company produced the world's first fossil fuel-free steel with HYBRIT® technology. In this innovative method, hydrogen is used instead of coal in the reduction of iron ore, and only water is released from the process.
SSAB's goal for commercial scale production is for steel produced under the SSAB Fossil-free™ brand to produce less than 0.05 kg CO₂e per kilogram of Scope 1, 2 and upstream Scope 3 emissions of the GHG Protocol. This rate redefines the boundaries of sustainability in the steel industry.
This strategic collaboration between SSAB and Metal Solutions is considered as an important step that will reduce environmental impact in the construction industry and lead to the creation of more sustainable supply chains.
