The company, particularly in the production of beams and profiles, flat steel, and heavy plates, had its processes approved by TÜV Nord and subsequently verified by the LESS Association. This step demonstrates that Salzgitter’s SALCOS®® products are transparently assessed based on CO₂ emissions and scrap usage, and that the certifications reflect actual practices.
The LESS standard divides production processes into six categories, ranging from E to “Near Zero.” Some of Salzgitter’s products have already achieved classifications from C to A. Company officials emphasize that these certifications confirm the commitments of green steel products and represent an important step toward leading markets.
Salzgitter CEO Gunnar Groebler stated: “LESS classifications create the necessary conditions for green pioneer markets that aim to quickly incorporate low-CO₂ raw materials into value chains. Now, political decisions must also be made to successfully achieve the industry’s transformation.”
