Founded in 2009, the factory's operation was restarted in eight days after a planned ten-day shutdown as part of modernization work. The project, which was carried out by SMS group under its annual X-Pact® Service contract, replaced old and faulty components with state-of-the-art controllers and an EtherCAT I/O system. This significantly increased system reliability and maintenance efficiency.
As part of the project, the X-Pact® ProBAS level 1 automation system was integrated into the roughing mill, finishing mill and hot plate straightening machine. Furthermore, operational safety was strengthened with the latest safety modules. Thanks to the open hardware and system platform approach, the plant is ready for flexible integration between different protocols and hardware in the future.
Wang Hailong, plant manager at Jingye Steel, praised the project, stating, “The SMS team worked efficiently in a short period of time and achieved results beyond our expectations.”
With an annual production capacity of 2.3 million tons, the plant produces heavy plate for shipbuilding, pipelines, pressure vessels and high-strength structural applications.
Christoph Stappenbeck, Vice President of Automation, Digital and Service Solutions, SMS group China, stated: "Our goal is to maintain and improve our customers' plant performance throughout its lifecycle. With our modernization and service solutions, we offer plant owners a broader product portfolio and higher production levels."
