September shows growth in port movements

The amount of container throughput at Turkish ports increased by 2.9% in September compared to the same month last year, reaching 1 million 110 thousand 558 TEU.

The Directorate General of Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure issued a statement on the amount of cargo and containers handled at ports in September via the social media account of the U.S.-based company X.

The statement highlighted that Türkiye’s ports have maintained their momentum, noting: “In September, compared to the same month last year, the amount of cargo handled at our ports increased by 2.8% to 42,886,769 tons, while container volume increased by 2.9% to 1,110,558 TEU. The highest increase, 10%, was recorded in liquid bulk cargo.”

The statement reported that in the January September period of this year, the amount of cargo handled at ports increased by 3% compared to the same period last year, reaching 409,680,959 tons. It also noted that container volume at the ports increased by 3.5% compared to the same period last year to 10 million 491 thousand 916 TEU.

The statement noted that the highest increase by cargo type was 8.6% in general cargo.
