According to the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (“UAVtormet”), the volume of scrap metal procurement in Ukraine at the end of January 2024 decreased by 21% compared to the previous month - to 118.3 thousand tons. Compared to January 2023, the figure increased by 95.5%.
Scrap metal exports in January of this year amounted to 17.2 thousand tons, which is 20% less than in December 2023. Compared to January last year, scrap shipments abroad increased 2.1 times. Imports of raw materials for the month amounted to 0.13 thousand tons, which is 35% less than monthly.
UAVtormet predicts that scrap procurement in Ukraine in 2024 will amount to 1.5-1.7 million tons. Domestic supplies of raw materials to steel plants will be at the level of 1.2-1.4 million tons. Exports will amount to 250-300 thousand tons.
