Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH announced an agreement with Lindab Steel, a subsidiary of Lindab AB, for the supply of CO2-reduced steel under the SALCOS® programme.

Salzgitter stated that with SALCOS®, the aim is to gradually convert steel production to hydrogen-based processes. Accordingly, the company aims to achieve virtually CO2 emission-free production by 2033. As part of this transformation, production processes such as direct reduction and electric arc furnaces will be used instead of the blast furnace method. The green steel produced by this method will primarily be used in profiled building products such as air ducting systems, ventilation products and roof and facade cladding.

Thommy Psajd, Procurement Director of Lindab Steel AB, stated: “Our goal is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain by 2050 and we see Salzgitter as a contributing partner in this journey. By signing the MoU, we acknowledge the goals of the SALCOS® program and look forward to including this steel in our CO2-reduced steel portfolio for future demand.”

Phillip Meiser, Head of Sales at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, added: “The signing of the MOU with Lindab proves once again that our SALCOS® program is the right approach to reducing the CO2 footprint of steel and that it is accepted by different customer groups. There is growing interest in this climate-friendly steel among our customers and partners and we are happy to support them in their green transformation process.”
