Salzgitter AG signs "Green power supply agreement (PPA)" with IG Merbitz Solar

Europe's leading German steel company Salzgitter AG continues its decarbonization activities.

Salzgitter AG signs "Green power supply agreement (PPA)" with IG Merbitz Solar

Salzgitter has signed a 10-year contract with IG Merbitz Solar for the supply of "green electricity" to support decarbonization. IG Merbit will supply Salzgitter with approximately 71 MWH of green electricity per year, which is generated by a photovoltaic system in Saxony-Anhalta. The agreement, which will enter into force in January 2025, also includes a substance that Salzgitter can store its energy resources at IG Merbitz facilities.

Salzgitter AG demonstrates its contribution to sustainability with sales of €12 billion in 2022. In their statements, Salzgitter underlined that they will produce steel with almost no CO2 by 2026 and underlined the importance of renewable energy sources in this process.

Salzgitter Flachstahl, a subsidiary of Salzgitter AG, signed a PPA with Octopus Energy Generation in February, demonstrating Salzgitter's commitment to contributing to climate goals and supporting decarbonization efforts.
