RUSAL has announced that it has started to use aluminum scrap in the production of new casting alloys for the automotive industry. The produced new alloy was named Primary Equivalent Foundry Alloys (PEFA), which contains 20% aluminum scrap that is added into molten aluminum during production.
Using aluminum scrap in production was expected to reduce RUSAL's overall carbon emissions by about 20%. In the second half of this year, RUSAL planned to increase the production of PEFA and increase the use of aluminum scrap to 30%.
