In a statement from the company, it was noted that all employees remained safe during the adverse weather conditions and that no injuries occurred.
Following the closures initiated on March 24, 2026 at Rio Tinto’s four iron ore port terminals in the Pilbara, ship loading resumed as of March 28 at the East Intercourse Island, Parker Point, and Cape Lambert B terminals.
Meanwhile, repair work is continuing on the damage sustained at the Cape Lambert A facility, with shipments from this terminal expected to resume in the coming days.
The company stated that the recent weather events, including Tropical Cyclone Mitchell in February, caused an approximate loss of 8 million tonnes in iron ore shipments. It was reported that a plan has been established to recover about half of this loss. Despite these developments, Rio Tinto maintained its 2026 Pilbara iron ore shipment guidance at 323 to 338 million tonnes.
