The UK-Australia-based company Rio Tinto has started working to expand its Alba smelter facility in Quebec.
The company will increase its low-carbon aluminum ingot casting capacity
With the decision to expand the facility, Rio Tinto has begun construction to increase its production capacity for low-carbon aluminum sheets by 202,000 mt. The facility will be equipped with new modern equipment.
The facility is planned to be operational in the first half of 2025.
Sébastien Ross, Managing Director of Rio Tinto Aluminium's Atlantic operations, made a statement:
"Expanding our low-carbon ingot casting capacity will allow us to better meet our customers' increasing demand for high-quality alloys and products made using renewable hydroelectric power.
