Rheinmetall plans to shift its steel sourcing to Europe

The German defense and automotive company Rheinmetall is making a significant change to its steel sourcing strategy as part of the new interim targets it announced on Tuesday.

Rheinmetall plans to shift its steel sourcing to Europe

According to a report by Reuters, the company’s CEO Armin Papperger announced that future steel purchases will primarily be made from Germany or other European countries.

Rheinmetall, founded in 1889 and known for developing defense systems and automotive technologies, has previously sourced steel from countries such as India and China. By saying “bring it back to Europe,” Papperger emphasized the company’s goal of reshaping the supply chain around Europe.

The company uses large quantities of steel in its defense products, and this decision aims to ensure a more secure and sustainable supply chain. Additionally, sourcing from Europe is expected to help reduce logistics costs and make procurement processes more transparent and traceable.
