Remarkable change in Turkiye's steel exports: 21.26% decrease in 20 cities

According to data obtained by SteelRadar from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, 20 cities on Turkiye's steel export map experienced a decrease compared to September last year. Here are the main developments that attract attention:

Remarkable change in Turkiye's steel exports: 21.26% decrease in 20 cities

When we look at the total export figures of the 20 leading cities in Turkiye's steel exports, steel exports, which were 1,729,970 dollars in September last year, decreased by 21.26 per cent to 1,362,211 dollars in the same month of this year.

Downward signal in Istanbul

Istanbul, one of the leading cities of Turkiye's steel exports, decreased its steel exports from $859,445 in September 2022 to $655,203 in the same month of this year with a 23.8% decrease.

Hatay's challenging period

Although Hatay, where the earthquake disaster occurred, is one of the centres of steel production and exports, the export figure, which was 144,688 dollars in September 2022, decreased by 13.4% to 125,334 dollars in September 2023. This shows that the region's recovery process continues.

Increase continues in Izmir

Izmir, where steel production facilities are concentrated, increased its exports from 92,184 USD in September 2022 to 103,204 USD in the same month of this year, an increase of 12%. This reflects Izmir's growth potential in the steel sector.

Big decrease in Osmaniye

Osmaniye, one of the top 20 leading cities in Turkiye's steel exports, draws attention with a decrease of 85.4 per cent compared to September last year. Exports, which were 47,937 dollars in September 2022, decreased to 6,975 dollars in the same month of this year.

Denizli set a record

Denizli was the leader in September. The export figure, which was 48,419 dollars in September 2022, increased to 67,154 dollars in the same month of this year, showing a record increase.

This contraction in steel exports throughout September came at a time when Turkiye was struggling with economic fluctuations. Next month's figures and economic conditions will offer more clues about the persistence of this contraction.
