Rebar prices surge, diameter diversity shrinks

The Turkish rebar market is witnessing a shrinking range of diameters and rising prices.

Rebar prices surge, diameter diversity shrinks

As of February 6, 2025, the diameter diversity shrinks and rising prices in the Turkish construction steel market are noteworthy. The lack of certain sizes, particularly in Istanbul factories, has positively influenced the region's construction steel prices, leading to an increase.

General Market Situation:

  • İçdaş's construction steel list price continues at the level of $580/ton, while buyers report being able to purchase at $570/ton.
  • Istanbul factories similarly announced a price of $580/ton; however, certain sizes such as 10, 16, 18, 20, and 32 mm are observed to be missing in some factories.
  • In the Iskenderun region, Tosyalı is not providing prices today, and sales are closed.
  • Izmir producers have set prices around $560. In the Karabük market, sizes 10, 18, 20, and 25 mm are not available

Consumption assessments suggest that sales, except in the Iskenderun region, are occurring among traders in other areas. This situation has led to comments that the rise in prices may be artificial.

Regional Prices:

According to Steelradar's assessment, Türkiye spot rebar prices by region,

  • Istanbul rebar price: 24,600 TL (+200)
  • Izmir rebar price: 24,300 TL (+200)
  • Karabük rebar price: 24,300 TL (+100)
  • Payas rebar price: 24,500 TL (+100)

These developments are significant indicators for the construction sector, and the market dynamics are eagerly anticipated. Additionally, price increases in imported scrap purchases continue; recent connections have seen imported scrap prices reach levels of $350-352. The current state of the market presents important risks and opportunities for both suppliers and players in the construction sector.
