Rebar prices in Germany rose to EUR 635 as of 1 July. The general increase in global steel demand and the consequent high prices of steel raw materials are causing rebar prices to rise. The increase in demand in the German construction sector had a negative impact on rebar prices. In addition, increases in energy and raw material costs have also pushed up iron production costs.
In Poland, another country in Northern Europe, the situation is no different. Rebar prices, which started the new week with a change of EUR 3, were updated at EUR 618.As in Germany, global steel demand, increases in raw material costs and general economic factors affect prices in Poland. The increase in infrastructure investments and construction projects, especially in Europe and globally, increases the demand for rebar in Poland.
The rebar market in Southern Europe has gained momentum
Rebar prices in Spain remained stable at EUR 595 as of 1 July. This stable trend in Spain is attributed to a balanced response to local demand and efficient utilisation of production capacity.
In Italy, rebar prices increased by EUR 10 to EUR 640, which was noted as a significant development in the local market. The intensive activity in the construction sector and the continuation of projects in Italy is another important factor supporting demand. However, these high prices may trigger an exit from the market, especially from distributors, who would prefer not to buy the products unless they are urgently needed. This makes it unlikely that prices will reach the levels desired by producers for a long time, as changes in the balance of demand and supply can affect market dynamics, sources added.
