Qatar Steel announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) to recycle iron and steel recovered from construction and demolition waste. The project aims to convert the materials collected at the Rowdat Rashed site into economic value and reintegrate the recovered metals into domestic production processes.
Under the agreement, QPMC will handle the sorting and processing of waste at the site, recovering metal-bearing materials. The collected scrap steel will then be transported to Qatar Steel’s facilities, where it will be melted and reintroduced into the production cycle. This approach will support local industries with sustainable raw materials while reducing the country’s reliance on imports.
Qatar Steel plans to convert the recycled metals into high-quality products for use in the country’s ongoing infrastructure and construction projects, contributing to lower environmental impact and more efficient resource use.
Both companies noted that the collaboration aligns with the sustainability goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. QPMC CEO Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Tamimi described the initiative as “a national step toward resource transformation,” emphasizing Qatar’s position as a regional model in sustainable construction materials. Qatar Steel CEO Abdulrahman Ali Al-Abdullah highlighted that reintegrating scrap steel into production will help reduce carbon emissions and enhance resource efficiency.
This partnership is expected to increase metal recovery rates from construction waste, strengthen the domestic steel supply chain, and reinforce Qatar’s leadership in sustainable resource management at the regional level.
