POSCO International reports record operating profit driven by energy business

POSCO Group subsidiary POSCO International continued its growth despite the global economic slowdown and challenging conditions in the steel market, supported by strong performance in its energy and materials businesses.

POSCO International reports record operating profit driven by energy business

The company successfully entered the “1 trillion won operating profit club,” driven by sales from the Myanmar natural gas field and profit contributions from newly acquired companies.

In a statement released on 29 March, the company said its consolidated operating profit for last year amounted to 1.1653 trillion KRW, marking an increase of 4.3% year on year. Sales reached 32.3736 trillion KRW, while net profit recorded a 26.5% increase to 636.8 billion KRW, representing the highest performance in the company’s history.

Growth in the energy and food sectors stood out. The Myanmar natural gas field generated an operating profit of 392.4 billion KRW, supported by an annual sales volume increase of 8.2 billion cubic meters. Australia-based Senex Energy, benefiting from its production expansion system, raised sales volume by 9.6 billion cubic meters and lifted operating profit by nearly 90% to around 75 billion KRW.

The company emphasized that POSCO International’s strong performance stemmed from steady growth in its energy and materials segments, noting that it managed to improve profitability despite ongoing global uncertainties.
