ArcelorMittal has decided to temporarily shut down Blast Furnace number three at its Katowice plant in Poland. The company is seriously considering shifting its production focus to India, raising questions about the future of its assets in Europe.
Poland, traditionally known as Central Europe’s industrial hub, has seen a decline of more than 22% in steel production over the past decade. A significant portion of domestic demand is now being met through imports.
Reduced output by ArcelorMittal Poland, plant closures, high levels of steel imports from Asia, energy supply restrictions, and rising electricity costs are among the key factors that continue to put pressure on the sector.
