The company aims to increase production efficiency, reduce gas consumption in the billet reheating process and lower overall CO₂ emissions through this investment. As part of the project, a new rolling mill will be installed, increasing billet size to 165 mm and featuring 20 SHS cartridge stands. The configuration will initially support a spool line designed for the production of 2.5-ton coils, while the future installation of a Horizontal Billet Welder (HBW) will enable a transition to 5-ton coil production.
The upgraded line will supply material to the existing bar line for products ranging from 2x8 mm to 40 mm, and to the spool line, which will be commissioned at a later stage, for products ranging from 10 mm to 25 mm. The modernization has been designed not only to enhance production capacity, but also to improve on-site safety and working conditions.
One of the most critical phases of the project will be the on-site installation and commissioning, which is scheduled to be completed within a single 45-day shutdown, enabled by dedicated engineering solutions and extensive pre-assembly works. The revamped line at SiderPotenza is expected to be commissioned with a fast start-up in 2027.
