Şireli emphasized that stainless steel is a critical input for many branches of industry, drawing attention to the importance of protecting domestic production in order to enable sustainable manufacturing and new investments.
Noting that the increase in dumped imports in recent years has weakened the sector’s competitiveness, Şireli stated that stainless steel—used across a wide range of industries from aerospace and defense to automotive, energy, food, and healthcare—continues to be a strategic product. Rising import pressure and the inflow of low-priced products are deepening unfair competition in the market.
Emphasis on anti-dumping measures
Şireli underlined that low-priced products originating from the Far East and Asia are disrupting market balances, making it increasingly difficult for domestic producers to maintain production under current conditions. He noted that import regime decisions and anti-dumping measures that protect domestic production are among the key factors that would pave the way for new investments in the sector.
Stressing that reducing external dependence on a critical raw material such as stainless steel is only possible through a strong domestic production base, Şireli highlighted that a fair competitive environment is indispensable for the sector’s sustainability. He added that PASSAD continues to cooperate closely with domestic producers, service centers, and all sector stakeholders.
First comprehensive report prepared for the sector
Şireli stated that 2025 was a productive year for the stainless steel sector, noting that significant work had been carried out under the cooperation protocol signed with Istanbul Technical University. He recalled that approximately 500 academics, industry representatives, and students came together at the 1st National Stainless Steel Summit, described as the most comprehensive gathering of Türkiye’s stainless steel sector to date.
Şireli emphasized that the Outcome Report prepared within the scope of the Summit would be a first for the sector, adding that university–industry cooperation is expected to expand further in the coming period. He noted that scholarship programs, master’s-level courses, and new education projects are on the agenda, and concluded by stating that PASSAD will continue to play its unifying role within the sector.
