Odisha aims to triple steel production capacity by 2030

The Indian state of Odisha has announced an ambitious growth plan for its steel sector.

Odisha aims to triple steel production capacity by 2030

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the state aims to more than triple its steel production capacity from 41 million tons to 130 million tons by 2030. He was speaking at the Steel India 2025 event in Mumbai, jointly organized by the Indian Steel Ministry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Aiming to attract new investment, the Odisha government plans to auction 22 mines in pursuit of this goal. Majhi also stressed that the state aims to become one of India's top five industrial hubs by promoting downstream steel processing industries.

Chief Minister Majhi stated that Odisha has become one of the leading economic powers in India and aims to contribute around 50% of India's total steel production by 2030. He recalled that at the “Utkasrh Odisha” meeting held in January, investment proposals worth 17 trillion rupees were received, a significant part of which was directed to the steel sector.

Majhi also noted that the state's new industrial policy offers simpler and clearer financial incentives compared to other states. This strategic approach aims to strengthen Odisha's industrial infrastructure and consolidate the country's leading position in the steel industry.
