Nucor raises HRC price by $5/st

Nucor Corporation has raised its consumer spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled coil (HRC) by $5/t for the week of August 31, extending a run of consecutive weekly increases to six weeks.

Nucor raises HRC price by $5/st

The company’s CSP HRC base price is now $1,185/t, up from $1,180/t previously, for all producing mills except CSI. For CSI, the new base price stands at $1,245/t.

The latest increase brings the cumulative rise in Nucor’s published HRC consumer spot price over the six-week period to a level that has become increasingly significant for the US flat steel market. The price spread at one producing mill has also widened during the period.

The upward pricing trend comes as two raw material inputs directly affecting coated and integrated steelmaking costs ended the week at levels not seen in years. One reached a multi-year high, while the other recorded its fourth consecutive weekly increase, adding further cost pressure to steel producers.

At the same time, US carbon flat-rolled imports moved in the opposite direction from total carbon imports in July, while one coated product registered its lowest daily import rate in more than two decades.

Overall, Nucor’s latest $5/t adjustment continues the recent upward trajectory in US HRC pricing, with the six-week streak coinciding with elevated raw material costs and changes in import flows.
