Novelis plans to use hydrogen at aluminum recycling plant

Novelis, an American industrial aluminum company, is primarily working on technologies that use hydrogen to replace natural gas. At present, Novelis' Latchford plant has received a grant of £4.6 million for the hydrogen combustion test, providing strong support for the test.

Due to a grant from the Department of Energy Security & Net Zero, Novelis plans to test the use of hydrogen at the Latchford facility in 2024. Latchford's trials of replacing natural gas with hydrogen could reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% for remelting furnace feed.

Novelis' sustainability goals are to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% by 2026 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 or sooner.
