According to the data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the increase in sunshine duration during the summer months was also reflected in electricity generation figures. In June, Türkiye’s total electricity generation reached its highest June level ever recorded, with 30.35 billion kilowatt-hours.
During this period, the amount of electricity generated from solar power plants reached 4.99 billion kilowatt-hours, while solar-based generation accounted for 16.4 percent of total electricity production.
Hydroelectric power maintained its leading position
In June, hydroelectric power plants had the highest share in electricity generation. Electricity production from hydroelectric sources reached 10.54 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 34.7 percent of total generation.
During the same period, electricity generation from renewable energy sources reached 20.65 billion kilowatt-hours, while generation from domestic resources reached 24.22 billion kilowatt-hours, marking the highest monthly levels since 2000.
Historic levels in renewable generation in the first six months
Significant increases were also recorded in electricity generation from domestic and renewable energy sources during the first half of 2026.
Between January and June:

57 billion kilowatt-hours from hydroelectric sources,

21.5 billion kilowatt-hours from wind energy,

19.2 billion kilowatt-hours from solar energy,

130.9 billion kilowatt-hours from domestic resources,

108.7 billion kilowatt-hours from renewable energy sources in total were generated.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated in his evaluation that domestic and renewable energy resources will continue to be utilized in the most efficient way.
Bayraktar said, “We will continue working to transform Anatolia’s abundant sunshine into prosperity for our nation.”
