New border gate planned between Türkiye and Bulgaria

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat stated that preparations are underway to open a new border gate between Türkiye and Bulgaria, announcing that a new crossing point is planned north of the Kapıkule Border Gate.

New border gate planned between Türkiye and Bulgaria

Speaking at a meeting organized by the International Transporters Association, where 2025 transport statistics were evaluated, Bolat said that the Bulgarian Parliament had sent Türkiye a draft agreement regarding the opening of a new border crossing between the two countries. He noted that the new gate would significantly facilitate transportation to Europe and help reduce congestion at existing border crossings.

With the new crossing point coming into operation, congestion at the Kapıkule Border Gate, Hamzabeyli Border Gate, and İpsala Border Gate is expected to ease. Bolat stated that this would effectively create a new corridor for shipments to Europe.

Durmuş Ünüvar also attended the meeting. Bolat emphasized that the logistics sector holds strategic importance for the Turkish economy, noting that Türkiye recorded $42.4 billion in logistics exports last year, while the sector’s total market size reached around $100 billion.

Bolat added that the global logistics sector has reached a value of $11 trillion, with transportation, warehousing, and supply chain management playing a major role in the world economy. He also stated that Türkiye ranks among the top 10 countries globally in logistics exports, holding a 2.8% share.

Finally, Bolat said that accelerating customs procedures, digitalization, modern infrastructure investments, and environmentally friendly logistics practices are among the ministry’s key priorities.
