The approval will apply to the steel's use for military purposes - particularly in armored vehicles and protective systems - in thicknesses from 6 to 16 mm.
The intensive testing process also evaluated performance criteria such as weldability and behavior under fire and explosion. The high durability and reliability of SECURE 500® proved that the steel provides effective protection even under harsh defense conditions. Salzgitter AG has thus once again demonstrated its expertise in providing solutions for the defense sector.
“Contributing to Defense is Our Mission”
Commenting on the approval process, Thorsten Moellmann, Head of Corporate Communications at Salzgitter AG and responsible for the Group defense task force, stated:
"Security and freedom must no longer be taken for granted. Europe must be able to defend itself. As a steel and technology group, we consider it our duty to contribute to this responsibility with our protective and armor steel production."
High Strength with Heat Treatment
Thorsten Gintaut, Director of Sales at Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, emphasized the technical features of SECURE 500® steel and stated that the product has a quenched and tempered, martensitic microstructure. “Thanks to our state-of-the-art heat treatment line in Ilsenburg, we are able to produce high-strength steels with exceptional surface quality and dimensional accuracy,” stated Gintaut.
