Mexico has announced a fifth re-investigation into imports of cold-rolled steel from Russia and Kazakhstan. The investigation was launched by the local branch of the Italian-Argentine group Ternium.
The investigation will cover the period from April 2023 to March 2024. However, older data from April 2019 will also be considered.
Cold-rolled steel imports will be subject to a 15% tariff for Russian suppliers and a 22% tariff for Kazakh exporters until the investigation is complete.
However, these products are subject to a 25% safeguard tariff, which came into effect in Mexico in April 2024 for a period of two years. This applies to steel products imported from countries with which Mexico does not have a free trade agreement.
