Mexican imports of finished steel up 20.5% in May

In May, imports of finished steel products to Mexico increased by 20.5% to 1.2 million tons, while its exports were down 35.3% to 284 kt, both compared to May 2022.

The main suppliers of finished steel to Mexico in the month under review were the United States - 377 thousand tons with an increase of 16%, Japan - 203 thousand tons with an increase of 17% and South Korea - 166 thousand tons with a decrease of 23.5%, all comparisons on an annual basis.

In turn, in May this year, the United States was the main importer of Mexican finished steel products - 229 thousand tons or 80.4% of all volumes.
