Malaysia imposes provisional AD duty on steel imports

Malaysia's Ministry of Trade has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties on certain flat-rolled iron and non-alloy steel products imported from China, India, Japan and South Korea. The ministry announced that the duties on these products with a width exceeding 600 mm range from 2.52% to 36.80% and came into effect on January 11.

The duties will be in effect for 120 days. The final decision is scheduled to be announced on May 10 after a detailed evaluation process. The ministry announced that comments and feedback on the preliminary findings can be submitted until January 20.

This decision follows an investigation initiated in August 2024 after a domestic producer filed a petition. The petitioner claimed that imports from the four countries were being sold at prices significantly below the domestic market levels, causing substantial harm to Malaysia's local steel industry.
