Made in Steel is taking place from 05 October 2021 to 07 October 2021

Made in Steel: conferences, analyses and interviews to understand steel macro trends The programme of conferences to be held from 5 to 7 October at fieramilano Rho during the main event for the steel industry in Southern Europe has been published.

Made in Steel is taking place from 05 October 2021 to 07 October 2021

Flero (Bs), July 2021 - Ecological transition, regionalisation of markets and neo-protectionism, digital innovation, economic acceleration after the Covid-19 crisis - these are some of the macro trends that are changing the steel value chain and  will be discussed during the ninth edition of Made in Steel, the main Conference & Exhibition in Southern Europe dedicated to the steel industry, which will be held from 5 to 7 October 2021 in Halls 9 and 11 of fieramilano Rho, with the title "RENAISSANCE - Here begins the steel rebirth".

"It will be different from 2019 - anticipates Emanuele Morandi, president and managing director of Made in Steel - first of all, it will be safe from a health point of view, and capable of developing visions for a world in the midst of profound change. We will focus not so much on quantity as on the quality of content, on the ability to generate ideas and relationships to start again together. The key words will be renaissance, rebirth and restart.

We believe that with Made in Steel our steel industry can make a new start. And together  with the steel sector, our companies, the economy and Italy will restart. I want you all to be there."

On Wednesday 6 October, the Federacciai general meeting will be held in the siderweb Conference Room at 2.30 p.m.

EUROPEAN STEEL STATE OF THE ART

European steel consumption will recover in 2021. However, this recovery will not be sufficient to fill the gap opened in 2020. This is the forecast of Eurofer on apparent demand for steel (an index that also takes into account the cycle of stocks). According to the continental association of steel producers demand for steel fell from 154 million tonnes in 2020 to 136 million tonnes last year, with a decline of 11.1%. The downturn was particularly acute both in the second quarter (-24.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2019) and in the third quarter (-10.4%), with a rebound in the fourth quarter (+3.3%).

Volumes are expected to  recover in 2021, approximating the 2019 level (152 versus 154 million tonnes), with an annual increase of 11.7% compared to 2020. The sector, Eurofer concludes, will only return above the 2019 level in 2022, with an apparent consumption of 160 million tonnes.

As for production, in the first six months of 2021 the European Union produced 13.2 million tonnes of steel, with an upward trend of 34.7% according to the World Steel Association. Italy produced 12.7 million tonnes of steel in the same period, up 26% according to Federacciai.
