The Türkiye steel market began September calmly. The ongoing slowdown in the construction sector is limiting demand for locally produced steel products. Low buying interest is observed not only in the domestic market but also on the export side. This situation prevents prices from taking a clear direction while making regional differences more noticeable.
In the domestic market, rebar prices in İzmir are holding steady at $530/ton. In the Marmara region, ex-factory prices remain around $550/ton, while İçdaş’s official price is listed at $555/ton, although actual purchases are reportedly concentrated around $545/ton. In İskenderun, manufacturers’ list prices opened at 27,350 TL/ton, but the lowest offers are reported to have reached 27,000 TL/ton.
One of the rare transactions during this slow period was Kardemir’s sale last week. The company sold a total of 21,250 tons at $547/ton, which stands out as notable activity in a period of weak demand.
The export side shows a similar picture. Turkish producers’ rebar offers are in the $545-555/ton FOB range, while tradeable levels are reported at $535-540/ton FOB. This indicates that international buyers are exerting price pressure and Türkiye must remain flexible to stay competitive.
The wire rod market also reflects this trend. Domestic ex-factory wire rod prices are in the 27,000-28,000 TL/ton range, while export offers are at $565-575/ton FOB. However, weak buying interest here too shows that the general slowdown in the market is also affecting the wire rod segment.
