According to MiningNews, on the sidelines of the Steel Symposium 1404 (2025) and on the first day of the event, Khouzestan Steel Company took a historic step in the field of advanced steel industry technologies by introducing its innovative product “Tafcoat” the world’s first global technology for coating direct reduced iron (DRI). This achievement symbolizes the self confidence of Iranian engineers and the nation’s domestic capabilities in developing cutting-edge technologies.
The unveiling ceremony was held on Tuesday at Khouzestan Steel’s exhibition booth and, as the world’s first launch of this technology, drew significant international attention to Iran’s steel industry. The “Tafcoat” technology was developed by Tafco, a company affiliated with Khouzestan Steel Holding and the innovation center of this group.
“Tafcoat” is an advanced protective coating specifically designed to prevent re-oxidation of DRI , offering remarkable advantages, including:
- Enhanced abrasion resistance,
- Reduced dust and fines generation,
- Elimination of spontaneous combustion risks,
- Improved safety and stability in storage
By enabling safe, long term storage of DRI, this technology directly contributes to boosting productivity and export readiness in Iran’s steel sector. Moreover, “Tafcoat,” grounded in indigenous knowledge and the intelligent utilization of domestic energy resources, demonstrates that Iranian engineers can transform constraints into opportunities and independently chart a course for technological advancement, free from external challenges.
