KARDEMİR celebrates the 86th anniversary of the first Turkish iron casting

Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, Chairman of Karabük Iron and Steel Works (KARDEMİR), stated that KARDEMİR, the first heavy industry facility of the Republic of Türkiye, continues to lead the industry with its high value-added production contributing to the national economy.

Demir emphasized that KARDEMİR, whose foundations were laid in 1937 as part of the Republic’s industrialization goals, was born not just as a production facility, but also as a symbol of Türkiye's determination to build an independent industry using its own resources and workforce.

Referring to the first Turkish iron casting carried out on September 10, 1939, Demir noted, “This step was a concrete expression of the Republic’s industrial vision. It stands as the strongest symbol of Türkiye's determination to process its own raw materials into added value, opening the doors of our national industry wide. It marked a turning point in the history of our country’s industrial development.”

Demir highlighted that the past 86 years represent more than the passage of time; they reflect Türkiye's strengthened industrial resolve, growing engineering capabilities, and entrenched industrial culture.

Recalling KARDEMİR’s many firsts since its establishment, Demir added:

“Today, KARDEMİR has become an industrial giant, producing Türkiye's first heavy bloom, first domestic railway rail, and first domestic railway wheel, maintaining its unique position as the sole producer in these areas. It is not only a production center but also continues to serve as a school guiding our nation’s production independence, railway infrastructure, and heavy industry engineering.”

Demir further stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s “National Technology Initiative” and “Domestic and National Production” vision continue to guide KARDEMİR’s strategic investments. He added, “On the 86th anniversary of the first Turkish iron casting, I extend my gratitude to all engineers, workers, technicians, executives, and the entire people of Karabük who have devoted themselves to KARDEMİR, and I warmly salute all our stakeholders serving our nation.”

Demir concluded by emphasizing that KARDEMİR, as “Türkiye's steel power,” continues to lead the country’s industrial journey today just as it did in the past.
