Jindal Steel Oman’s DRI plant achieves global production and operational records

Jindal Steel Oman announced that its direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Sohar, Oman, has achieved new records in operational continuity and production performance.

According to the company, the plant operated for 188 consecutive days without any unplanned shutdown, with the run ending on July 11, 2026. Midrex Technologies stated that this performance sets a new global benchmark among DRI modules equipped with 6.5-metre shaft furnace technology, with the facility producing 33% above its original design capacity.

The plant also set a new monthly production record by producing 185,710 tons of DRI in May 2026. Operating at an average rate of 249.6 tonnes per hour, the facility surpassed its previous record of 183,629 tons achieved in March 2026. Midrex Technologies confirmed that this represents the highest monthly production ever recorded among comparable 6.5-metre shaft furnace DRI modules worldwide.

The facility also established a new daily production record by producing 6,113 tons of DRI on May 22, 2026, at an average rate of 254.7 tonnes per hour. This exceeded the previous daily record of 6,075 tons set on April 29, 2026.

Jindal Steel Oman officials said the achievement was not the result of a single technological breakthrough, but rather of disciplined operations supported by high operational efficiency, reliability, standardized processes, proactive maintenance practices, and strong coordination across teams. They added that the 188-day uninterrupted operating run has become one of the plant’s most effective maintenance strategies to date.

The company said these achievements further strengthen the Sohar plant’s position among the world’s most efficient DRI operations.
