Jindal Shadeed upgrades continuous casting line in response to growing construction demand

Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC, operating in the Sultanate of Oman, has decided to modernize its eight-wire Concast continuous caster at its facility in Sohar Port.

Jindal Shadeed upgrades continuous casting line in response to growing construction demand

This strategic investment, realized in response to increasing demand from the construction sector, aims to increase the company's production capacity and expand its product portfolio.

The modernization work is being carried out in partnership with SMS Group, a long-standing partner of Jindal Shadeed. The upgraded system will enable the company to respond more effectively to the rising demand for special bar quality (SBQ) in global markets.

According to a statement, thanks to the new system, Jindal Shadeed will now be able to produce billets in 180 mm² and 200 mm² sizes. These sizes are especially preferred in the construction industry.

The equipment provided by SMS includes the mechanical components for the section, as well as the CONSTIR-MEMS electromagnetic mixer and CONFLOW stopper control boxes. These high-tech solutions aim to make the production process more efficient, high quality and stable.

The CONSTIR mold mixer improves the homogeneity of steel during the solidification process, reducing product defects and ensuring higher yields. The CONFLOW system precisely controls the flow of steel during casting, ensuring production continuity and consistency in billet sizes. The integrated automation package minimizes human error, ensuring process monitoring and quality.

The continuous casting line, which was first successfully commissioned in 2017, is expected to be back in operation by the end of 2025 with the upgraded version. This step is critical for Jindal Shadeed to further strengthen its position in both the regional and global steel market.
