The rapid growth in global demand for ultra-high-strength steel sheets with a minimum tensile strength of 980 MPa was the main factor prompting the company to increase capacity.
The new line, to be established with an investment of approximately 70 billion yen, is scheduled to start operations in October 2028. With an annual production capacity of 360,000 tons, the facility will focus particularly on producing alloyed hot-dip galvanized steel sheets.
Stricter environmental regulations and crash safety standards worldwide are driving the automotive industry to develop lighter and more durable vehicle bodies. Accordingly, demand for ultra-high-strength yet formable steel sheets is expected to increase further in the coming years. The new CGL line will significantly increase JFE Steel’s capacity for products in this class, including its JEFORMA® series, allowing the company to meet customers’ strength and functionality requirements.
The company is not only developing these steels but also expanding application technologies. Under the JESOLVA® brand, JFE Steel is developing advanced materials, body designs, forming, and joining technologies to provide integrated solutions to automakers. This comprehensive approach aims to contribute to the production of next-generation vehicles that are safer, lighter, and more efficient.
