Italy's national steel production increased by 3.7% in May compared to the same period last year. According to data published by Federacciai, steel production improved driven by growth in hot-rolled products.
In May, Italy's steel mills produced a total of 2.0 million tons of steel. This increase showed a slight slowdown after increases in April (6.1%) and March (7.5%). In the first five months of the year, total production increased by 4.1% to 9.3 million tons.
Production growth was seen in two main hot rolled product groups. Long products were increased by 1.8% y/y with 1.2 million tons produced in May, while year-to-date production volume increased by 1.3% to 5.4 million tons. Flat products, on the other hand, produced 824 thousand tons with an annual increase of 9.0%. In January-May period, flat products production increased by 10.5% to 4.1 million tons.
