Steel production in Italy decreased by 3.2% y/y to 1.8 million tons in June 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from Federacciai, the Federation of Italian Steel Producers. This decline signaled a remarkable slowdown after the recovery trend observed in the first five months of the year.
Half-year data still positive: 2.9% increase in production
Despite this, total production reached 11.1 million tons in the January-June 2025 period, increasing by 2.9% compared to the same period last year. This increase supports the general recovery in the steel industry in the first half of the year.
Double-sided decrease in hot rolled products
In June, the production of hot rolled long products decreased by 2.3% to 1.1 million tons and flat products by 6.6% to 720 thousand tons. However, production growth continued in both product groups in the first half of the year. Long products remained at the same level as last year at 6.4 million tons (+0.4%), while flat products showed a strong growth of 7.7% with production of 4.9 million tons.
