Isdemir boosts investments as it marks 55th anniversary

Isdemir, a company of the OYAK Mining and Metallurgy Group, continues to add value to Turkish industry and the steel sector with its sustainable production approach

Isdemir boosts investments as it marks 55th anniversary

The company has commissioned Turkey’s largest blast furnace and is accelerating its investments in its 55th year.

Murat Yalçıntaş, CEO of OYAK, emphasized Isdemir’s leading role in Turkish industry and the steel sector:
“With its modern production facilities, strong export performance, and innovative technological infrastructure, Isdemir contributes to our country’s competitiveness on the global stage. Beyond being a production hub, it is an institution that creates both social and economic value.”

Founded in 1970, Isdemir plays a significant role in the development of Turkish industry not only through its production and export capacity but also by providing employment. The company provides direct employment to nearly 5,000 people and indirect employment to around 9,000, and with an annual liquid steel capacity of 5.8 million tons, it is the only integrated steel producer in Turkey capable of manufacturing both flat and long products.

As part of the 55th anniversary celebrations, OYAK Chairman of the Board Zekai Aksakallı, OYAK CEO and Chairman of the Erdemir-Isdemir Board Murat Yalçıntaş, board members, and executives of OYAK Mining and Metallurgy companies visited Isdemir facilities hosted by Isdemir General Manager Ayhan Akın.

During the visit, Yalçıntaş closely examined the production sites and highlighted Isdemir’s pivotal role in the development of Turkey and the İskenderun region since its establishment:
“Isdemir’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 is important not only for environmental sustainability but also for aligning Turkish industry with global standards. This approach clearly reflects OYAK’s sustainability-focused, long-term value creation strategy.”

Turkey’s Largest Blast Furnace Commissioned

In line with these goals, Isdemir has accelerated its investments and commissioned Turkey’s largest blast furnace, “Cemile,” in 2025.
The new-generation blast furnace, with an annual capacity of 2.8 million tons of liquid pig iron, enhances efficiency, saves energy, and is equipped with advanced technologies including an eco-friendly gas recovery system, reducing emissions and strongly supporting Isdemir’s journey toward carbon neutrality.
