Is the Turkish long steel market recovering? Prices rise, demand remains limited

In Türkiye, rebar and wire rod prices have started to move upward in recent weeks, driven by increasing production costs, exchange rate volatility, and prolonged low price levels. In response to these pressures, producers have begun to revise their prices upward in both the domestic and export markets.

For August shipments, Türkiye-origin rebar export offers have reached $535–545/ton FOB, marking an increase of about $5/ton compared to last week. However, demand on the export side remains weak. While purchasing activity in Europe has slowed due to summer holidays, a strong recovery in the Middle Eastern market has yet to emerge. Many buyers prefer to stay on the sidelines or limit their purchases to meet only daily needs.

Regional differences stand out in the domestic market

Domestically, prices vary by region. In the İzmir region, prices remain stable at around $530/ton, while ex-works prices in the Marmara region are around $555/ton. Although İçdaş has officially announced its price at $560/ton, actual transactions are reported to be occurring closer to $540/ton. In the İskenderun region, one producer continues to offer at $555/ton.

Upward trend observed in wire rod prices as well

On the wire rod side, export offers for August shipments are reported at $545–550/ton FOB. In the domestic market, ex-works prices are observed in the range of $540–555/ton. Despite the summer slowdown in Europe, an upward trend in wire rod prices is also becoming noticeable in the domestic and Middle Eastern markets.

Demand remains weak

Although prices have started to rise, overall demand in the market remains sluggish. Buyers remain cautious both in domestic and export markets. Market participants maintain hopes for a recovery in the last quarter, but whether prices will find support in the short term largely depends on developments on the demand side.
