In its outlook plan for the Iranian calendar year 1404 (2025-2026), Iran has projected an annual steel production of 55 million tons, and to achieve this target, the country needs to extract 160 million tons of iron ore.
Iran has been applying a 25 percent tax on raw mineral (especially iron ore) exports since September 2019 in order to prevent unprocessed metal exports, create more added value and meet the raw material needs of domestic producers.
The mission aims to encourage the production of more processed minerals such as pellets and concentrates, rather than selling the raw minerals.
