Iraq has approved plans to build a new city in the central Babylon Governorate, the official Alsabah newspaper reported. Another project consisting of 700 residences is still ongoing.
Citing Mohammed Zakam, Chairman of the Babylonian Investment Commission, the paper aims to tackle the ongoing housing crisis in the state, whose projects need at least 115,000 housing units. Zakam added that the project will cost about 32 billion Iraqi dinars, or $22 million. He said 11 more housing projects are planned in the state, including a new city in the Hillah area. Without giving details of the project, “We started the procedures for the city of Hillah. "It's one of the big projects that will support plans to close the housing gap," he said.
