According to provisional government data reviewed by Reuters on Monday, this increase points to strong export performance in the country’s processed steel sector.
India, the world’s second-largest crude steel producer, imported 5.6 million metric tonnes of processed steel during the same period. This represents a 37.4% decline compared to the previous year.
India’s crude steel production rose by 11.2% in the April-February period, reaching 153.61 million metric tonnes. Processed steel consumption during the same period increased by 7.2%, reaching 147.7 million metric tonnes.
The government will release detailed country-wise trade figures later in the month.
