India's iron ore exports on the rise

According to the data, exports reached nearly 4.52 million tons in February, up 19% from the same period last year. This steady growth has been evident since November, with volumes rising from 4.02 million tons to 6.27 million tons in December and 6.17 million tons in January 2024. In 2023, total exports reached 43.85 million tons.

Despite the government's efforts to restrict exports in line with its target of 300 million tons of crude steel production by 2030, opposition from the industry continues. However, for regions based on iron ore production, exports are vital for foreign exchange earnings, making this trend difficult to reverse.
