India files anti-dumping petition against cheap alloy steel imports from China

The Alloy Steel Producers Association of India (ASPA) has filed an anti-dumping petition with the federal commerce ministry against cheap imports from China.

India files anti-dumping petition against cheap alloy steel imports from China

ASPA Director General Anil Dhawan stated in an interview with Reuters on Monday that the petition was submitted to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on July 31.

India, the world's second-largest crude steel producer, has an annual production capacity of 18-20 million tons of alloy steel used in the automotive, defense, and aerospace sectors. Dhawan stated, "China is selling alloy steel wire rods at very low prices, and imports have increased significantly over the past three years. This situation is negatively affecting local alloy steel producers."

Dhawan noted that alloy steel wire rods are primarily used in automobiles and automobile parts, and stated that ASPA members include India's largest steel producer JSW Steel, as well as Jindal Steel, Kalyani Steels, and Mukand Sumi Special Steel.

India imposed a temporary 12% customs duty on steel imports from certain countries, primarily China, in April to control the increase in cheap shipments.
