India and the US on the path to strategic cooperation on critical minerals

India and the United States are expected to finalize a preliminary agreement on critical minerals this week, signaling efforts to strengthen their trade relationship despite minor diplomatic challenges. The agreement, which aims to enhance cooperation in the critical minerals sector, is expected to be signed during Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Washington. Goyal is set to hold meetings with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai to discuss expanding bilateral trade ties between the two countries.

Earlier this month, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a one-on-one meeting with US President Joe Biden in Delaware to highlight the growing cooperation between the two countries. Both leaders are part of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), a strategic security dialogue between the United States, Australia, India, and Japan.

The much-anticipated agreement aims to enhance technical expertise, improve supply chains, and strengthen collaborations between Indian and American companies in the critical minerals sector, while also further cementing the trade partnership between the two countries.
